Congratulations to you, Janos, on celebrating your 80th birthday, and for your many contributions to the study of history. Your energy for CEU and Central European history is unflagging and sooner or later most of your colleagues and friends yield and teach one or more courses at CEU. Alice and I have many positive memories of our time at CEU in 1999. The students were refreshing in their enthusiasm. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. We quickly came to enjoy Budapest, the city for which you left Vancouver and your 12th floor office with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains. We would not have come to CEU had you not encouraged us to do so. I have enjoyed working with you on a number of scholarly projects, but none was so pleasant as CEU, and for this I am deeply grateful to you. All the best to you.
